Abstract

This paper presents a novel mixed-integer linear programming model for the combined capacity and production planning problem, which accounts for several important features. Continuous processes are treated through subtasks related to startup, production, and shutdown phases, and capacity expansion activities that require resources and an implementation shutdown are included. Each capacity expansion activity can be used to expand the capacities of a predefined set of tasks, and the expansion of each task is determined independently. Finally, a case study of industrial size and complexity is solved to showcase the applicability of the proposed model.
